I'm Fred, a science writer and communicator.
I believe that storytelling allows science to become more than just a descriptor of the world, but rather a way to navigate it.
I've picked the brains of hundreds of scientists to produce dozens of science journalism articles, scientific articles, and podcasts. I cover all things biology, medicine, and science art, but my central passion is neuroscience.
My ~10 year-long academic career in neuroscience has given me a deep insight into the strengths and weaknesses of science, not least its ability to create such a wealth of knowledge that never reaches the public. But really I'm a storyteller at heart. I write fiction to keep the mind sharp, and paint portraits and abstractions to keep the eye keen. I thrive where science meets communication and art.
